Want A 2 Color Brochure?

If you are getting ready to design your next tri-fold brochure, letterhead, or newsletter, consider only using a design that consists of 2 ink colors. Not all designs have to be CMYK to be impressive. In fact, it can be a really true test of your design ability to take only 2 ink colors and create a masterpiece with them.

A lot can be done with 2 colors, especially if you consider a unique paper to print it on. Just make sure that the paper you are interested in is available with your commercial printer. If you get too exotic, you may have to order a minimum quantity and sometime this minimum may last you a lifetime.

Anyway, back to the colors. You may consider a metallic as one of your ink colors. Especially if you have photos, you could create a cool looking duotone with the black and a metallic gold, silver, copper, or maybe metallic blue. If you look at the latest Pantone Guide, there is a specific book that highlights metallics. Some of their mixtures are pretty cool. I really am a big fan of some of the metallic blues, purples, and violets. Even if you do not want to use a metallic, you still can use a duotone effect with you images or photos. If done correctly, it really can be impressive.

Just remember that you don’t always have to spend a fortune to design and produce a top quality printed piece
