Design Your Next Brochure

Sometimes you do not need to hire a graphic designer for your next brochure, postcard, or newsletter project. Don’t get me wrong, there will always be a need for a professional looking design done by a graphic designer, but sometimes you just may need to do something quick and just may want to do it yourself.

If you are proficient at all with any of the Microsoft programs or other desktop programs, then you can create a great looking brochure, newsletter, or postcard. That way you can insert whatever photos, images, or clip art that you see fit. The trick is that you need to be able to save it to a PDF file when you are finished with the editing and layout. This is the file that the printer you are going to send it to will use to print from. Sometimes, if the quantity is small enough, they may do it digitally on a high end color copier or they just may print it CMYK on an offset press.

If you are unable to save I to a PDF file, then check with you printer to see if they can handle the file that you created. If they can, you will want to proof the job carefully after the printer has preflighted it, because fonts and margins may have changed. That is why it is best to create the PDF on your own, because you will have more control over any errors that may occur. A full version of Adobe Acrobat can cost $400-500, but it is well worth investment for a variety of reasons.

Once you get the hang of it, next thing you know, you may be creating brochures and other marketing materials left and right.
