Creating Labels: Printing and Design Basics

When it comes to creating and printing powerful labels that advertise your company and announce to the recipient that they are about to open a package containing the products and services that they have been waiting for, simplicity is best.

Your return address and a graphic are all you need. Even a graphic is not a necessity. If you are pressed for money or haven't yet fully decided on the logo you'd like to represent your business, it's best not to print one on your logo at all. It is far better to simply have a return address than to start to have your business identified with a logo you will only change later.

A label is not the place to print anything about your business other than your address. Even though it seems like a great advertising opportunity, it may only obscure its true intent which is to allow the customer to contact you if necessary or to reroute the package back to your business should there be a problem with the mail. For example, photographs, though a good idea on business cards, are too expensive for labels.

Bright colors are a great choice, however. Too many colors are unnecessary and may blur when wet, more so than one color alone. Something bright anything besides black will stand out nicely. Again, choose a color for your label printing that you are comfortable associating with your business for a long time to come, otherwise it's just wasted ink as far as brand recognition and advertising are concerned.

Remember, when in doubt, go with the simplest choice available when choosing design elements for printing business labels.
